Idea: LAN messenger

Would a plugin for LAN messanging be possible?
I tried a few special programs like BeeBeep and they all sucked ass. Using ICQ which has extremely slow login times and sometimes fail for whatever reason can get annoying.

I think such plugin/proto already exists, the EmLAN: https://wiki.miranda-ng.org/index.php?title=Plugin:EmLanProto/en

Interesting, but I can't figure out how to use it.

Install. Restart Miranda. Em-LAN automatically searches (via broadcast) other Em-LAN clients in the local network. Or you can manually add contact by IP via standard "Add contacts" dialogue.

I did just that. Installed on both PCs, started the Mirandas, but I have no idea what's supposed to happen. Because absolutely nothing is exactly what I'm observing.

edit:
after adding the contacts manually, messages are not being sent anyway, and my Miranda even froze shortly afterwards.
I guess I'm done here.

EmLAN is working. tested. If you do not see other clients (via standard Add/Search dialog, type * for all contacts or IP/computer_name for particular contact), maybe broadcast is disabled in your network or some problems with TCP/IP. You can test this via Telnet.
