MSN auth issues since around 27th April 19
« on: 30 04 2019, 23:34:41 »
Sometime in the last few days the MSN plugin has started refusing to authenticate, even after creating a new connection just to be sure it's not a cache issue. Live.com login works fine as does the skype website so it's not a password issue, has Microsoft got round to doing something I've missed? I'm using dev versions, but I can't remember that plugin updating in a while.

it happens time to time, basically when the server responsible for storing your login/password is stopped for maintenance or smth like that
usually this error disappears in 2 days

Hmm - ok, thanks. Been a lot longer than two days, but let's give it a little longer.

Still no joy connecting, can't even open a connection now - had this for a couple of days. Previous to that it was attempting a skype web login & failing, but I don't have logs of that to hand.

Did a DNS lookup from another country & got the same IP so it's not some geolocation failure.

Karibanu,
We've discussed these matters with Leecher, he told me that it's a problem with login servers, i.e. to enable MSN one should replace its login procedure with Skype login, then everything will work ok. Perhaps that's reasonable to postpone MSN in favor of Skype plugin finally, cause its features like contact lists didn't work anyway

Yeah, I guess it's finally the end - thanks.

There is a bug report for the dropped MSN support:

Why doesn't anyone of you try it out with EscargotMSN and post your results there?

I may well need an alternate - Skype plugin maxes Miranda's CPU use - now I remember why I disabled it in the first place...

Will check some alternatives out when I get a chance.
