This template should generate httpS link, because Wikipedia force redirects http to https.

It's wikimedia related. It is not a template but an internal syntax of wikimedia itself that its further parsed so we cannot do much about without digging under the hood. Maybe it was changed in some update (didn't checked release notes) but we have outdated version of wikimedia engine which isn't updated on a regular basis so..

As stated by documentation this should be doable. Needs only some features to be unlocked by changes in configuration
