Now that Facebook purschased Whatsapp I am considering moving to other alternatives, and found Telegram (https://telegram.org/apps). There are some unofficial clients, even web based.
Any chance of seeing it integrated in Miranda NG?
-
Telegram isnt planed. We are, however, working on supprt for Tox (http://tox.im), and an initial version is in the SVN. Stay tuned! :)

Nice, I'm looking forward to it! Will it support video/audio calls as well? :DRINK:

Maybe at a later point :)

Hi Wishmaster, that is very exciting. Is there a development binary I can download to alpha test the tox implementation?
-
No not yet. There is just the source code in the svn (branches), and you can try to compile it yourself.

Telegram isnt planed.
Is that definite? :o There is now a desktop version of Telegram for PC. (There (https://tdesktop.com/).) It would be nice to be able to integrate this messenger in Miranda NG.

We'll see if Telegram will gain some user base, maybe then some programmers will be interested in writing plugin. As for now it's just another WhatsApp wannabe with debatable future.
-
Thank you. :THUMBS UP:
Playstore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.telegram.messenger&hl=de): 10.000.000–50.000.000 installations yet. ;)

I started using telegram on all my mobile phones now and on desktop. Would be nice to have it integrated in Miranda one day but it's nice as it is already.
-
A telegram-plugin would have my vote, too! :)

And Viber, Line and others protocols?

Are proprietary closed source with no public API or whatsoever, Telegram is open.

Thanks for the reply. The Whatsapp is also open? I saw a plugin it here in the forum ...
-
WhatsApp is not open but there were many open projects on GitHub that helped create this plugin.
-
+1 for telegram support. whould be really nice to have.
thanks alot

As a non programmer, but enthusiast Miranda user, where should I start, to try to write/compile/make that plugin?

Well, you shouldn't. You need to know about programming to write a plugin. This isn't as easy as it seems to be :)
-
A +1 for me too.
Telegram is spreading fine here, I think it could be a good addition to Miranda.
Maybe Telegram Developers could be interested to provide a support for the Miranda Plugin development?

This (http://www.cryptofails.com/post/70546720222/telegrams-cryptanalysis-contest) is an interesting analysis about Telegram's encryption (thanks Robyer).
-
Does this means that, if they decide to improve the security redesigning their protocol, a possible Miranda Plugin should be rewritten?
PS: I don't think that a strong encryption is the first priority for many users, because the great part of the messages are trivial. I don't mean if someone read my "hey, how are you" "fine thanks!". The priority is a software that works fine (is light, don't lost messages) and is well spread.
-
+1 for telegram support because whatsapp is kinda ICQ, doesn't have any security at all.

Pidgin/libpurple has an alpha version for telegram support, supporting text messages only which is all I care for. They have binaries for OSX it seems only.
https://github.com/majn/telegram-purple
Would this be portable to Miranda NG?

In other words, the blog prove (yet again), that obscurity has no relation to security?

Work goes there http://trac.miranda-ng.org/log/trunk/protocols/Telegram

Does any alpha, beta for Telegram Plugin?
-
Telegram has become a quite popular IM client nowadays, adding its support to Miranda is of big necessity
-
I'm afraid no one here is working on it right now...
-
When will it be developed?
-
Meanwhile, the subject became really hot, at least in Ukraine.
Since VK is banned in Ukraine because of politics, many people here switched to telegram and have brung there many their friends from Russia. So i think it's time to add tg support to miranda.
-
https://github.com/miranda-ng/miranda-ng/issues/596 logged some time ago.
Depending on the api, it might be possible; for example thanks to Ghazan's efforts, Discord support was done in a relatively short amount of time. ( https://github.com/miranda-ng/miranda-ng/issues/629 ). There are still some quirks but it works fine for the most part.
-
I guess that would be so awesome! :) Just missing Telegram and maybe Battle.net xD
Miranda is still so much better then pidgin, which got all these protocols. o_O
-
Its about Time to have support for Telegramm. Their API is public avaible. They even provide a Library (TDLib) do handle most of the Stuff.
Especially when Whatsapp will introduce Ads to the Software as its planned, a lot People will switch to Telegram, since its free and has almost indentically Features.
Im tired of using 2 Applications. Even Pidgin has support for Telegram - basic Features at least. i dont like Pidgin at all, when i used it, it crashed a lot and their ICQ Plugin doesnt work anymore anyway)
-
There seem to be no Interest in adding Telegram Support. Seems to me that Devs want Users switching Software.
-
Maverick, It is a free opensource project. The key feature of it is that anyone is free to add anything he wants regardless of main developers' interest :) So, the problem is not that developers have no interest. The problem is, I would say, no one in the world have enough interest in developing Telegram pluging for Miranda (including you and me). Perhaps not enough people are actually aware of this project :-\

Very waiting

Telegram support added to dev builds.
