Hi, since yesterday it's not possible to connect to Google Chat (previously Google Talk) service with jabber protocol.
I suppose it has something to do with fact, that Google is ending support for 3rd party apps just like it announced few weeks ago:
You're receiving this email because our records show you may have recently used a third-party app to connect to Google Talk.
As we announced in 2017, we are winding down Google Talk. On 2022-06-15, we will end our support for third-party apps (including Pidgin and Gajim).
It looks like they killed it one week earlier.
Until now I've been waiting patiently that somebody will bring this up and hopefully come with the solution.
But there is no word, so in the end it's me who is asking:
Is this really the end of support of Google Chat in Miranda NG?
Will somebody try to find the solution?
Or maybe there already is one and I'm blind to see it?
Thanks...

I also didn't login in my google talk account today. Does it has any plan to support new google chat ?
-
Definitely not.
-
It's a pity then.
Pidgin has already found the workaround.
At first it requires getting the Google login cookie, but then it's working fine.
But for people who have been using Miranda for many many years, Pidgin is not so "pretty" at all.

hi ,laci58
Could you share the information about how to use google chat in pidgin ?
Thanks a lot

Pidgin has already found the workaround.
This doesn't look like a workaround, but a completely new protocol implementation.

There is no need for a new protocol for Gtalk / Jabber. To reuse your accounts, just set up two-step authentication in the security settings of your Google Account.
After activating it, generate an App Password for this account.
You will receive a 16-character password - use IT in Miranda's settings and that's it!
More information on how to do all this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4CtP1MBtOE
I wish success to all! :DRINK:
p.s. I use PCLinuxOS at home, this works with Pigdin too!

set up two-step authentication
generate an App Password
I didn't believe it would work, but it really does, thanks a lot, man :THUMBS UP:
-
Glad I was able to help, wish you all the best :DRINK:

Thanks from me too. ;)
Without gtalk I should have to retire Miranda, as no other protocol I use is supported. Ok, except ICQ, but I haven't any online contact anymore. Gtalk is the only protocol I actively use, even if with a lot of limitations, especially when the counterpart uses the new google chat.
I hope in a future basic support for Telegram (it is not matter of choice, it is the only one, except whatsapp, that the people I know use), but I can understand the lack of available time for developers.

It doesn't work for me, can't log in with the app password. What am I doing wrong? ???
-
Don't know, review and check your settings.
This is my working setup:
-
until yesterday it worked fine
today it doesn't work again ???
-
It still works fine for me (crossing fingers...)

Which password did you generate, the app or the device password?
-
@Franki
An App password.
Unfortunately, since this morning (about one hour ago), the protocol doesn't connect anymore. I tried to generate a nwe password without having success.
Looking at your experiences, probably it is not a temporary issue. Anyway, let's wait for some evolution of the situation.

GTalk finally died today for me too, even considering the fact that I've used the application password for Miranda
Seems that the story finally came to the end

I wonder how with such a simple procedure, you still have trouble running your accounts. Here's a screenshot, literally a minute ago - I'm sitting at my wife's computer, under Windows 10, and you can see my account alive and well. The client is QIP 2012 !!! and yet - it works great and I'm online. If you want, I'll take a picture of how this same account works in Pidgin under Linux. Either you have a problem with ISP, or you use VPN, I don't know what else it could be.

This was an expected change from Google; they sent out an email saying "As we announced in 2017, we are winding down Google Talk. On 2022-06-15, we will end our support for third-party apps (including Pidgin and Gajim)." I use third-party-app passwords and lost access around the 8th, and have tried more than once to generate and use a new one, with no success.
I'd say it's a fluke that some people still have access, rather than that people don't know how to create/use app passwords.
-
I'd say it's a fluke
I don't think so.
I believe they are switching it off step by step, user by user.
So even though qsatis is making fun of us, he'll be next sooner or later.
By the way, Pidgin still works.
I don't like it, but it's better than having one separate browser window open with Google Chat.

Yep, I'm already sure I will loose my account soon or later. Sorry guys, it seems this was a temporary solution.
