Hello! I'm creating this topic as there isn't one about Jabber yet and maybe there is going to be some more active discussion about it.

I'm (sadly) not a developer, but as an end-user I'm very curious if there are any bigger improvements or changes for Jabber in the works. Especially adding new great XEP extension features would be so awesome. One great example is XEP-0363, known as HTTP file upload. It allows you to upload a file to the Jabber server and linking this file in the chat instantly for sharing. This is great for group conversations and offline contacts. So far it is only implemented in the Android mobile clients Conversations and Xabber, and in the desktop client Gajim (but a huge pain to setup the plugin for average users on Windows...).

The same counts for the OMEMO encryption. But I wouldn't like to repeat myself and bother you more than necessary, so I'm linking my previous topic: http://forum.miranda-ng.org/index.php?topic=4378.0 - What do you think?

Are there any plans for Jabber enhancements in the future? As no commercial company is going to come and break all your work with an update again, I think it is a worthwhile investment to bring an open standard more forward. Pidgin, Gajim, Xabber (Android), and so many other clients aren't making any steps forward, so I would love to see anything new in the future on my favorite client (Miranda NG of course :P). What do you think? Any opinions? Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, the Jabber protocol itslf is in dire need of updates. It is cumbersome and unreliable.
But the progress has been slow and conflicting so far.

Does the Jabber plugin work for anyone since last week's update (0.95.5)? My account won't connect anymore.

Do you use jabber.ccc.de? There seem to be some problems, try using OpenSSL plugin for Miranda NG.

I found the reason - it seems the problem was with miranda database, I deleted jabber account and then imported history and contacts from old database and it started working again, strange...

i updated my MirandaNG Dev. Build 32bit today via internal Pluginupdater to Version v0.95.8 alpha build #19570.

Now i'm not able to send messages via Jabber Protocol anymore.
Im using Jabber Protocol for example to communicate with other GTalk/Hangouts Users.
Everytime i try to send a Message an Error pops up "No Omemo Session exists".
Recieving Messages from Others works fine.

Im using Jabber Protocol too for a second Account to communicate with Conversation Users.
It works for months via OTR Encryption.
After an Update from Conversations Client they didnt support OTR anymore.
But they still support OMEMO.
In that Jabber Account i have aktivated OMEMO in Accountsettings.
But if the Others send me an OMEMO encrypted Message Miranda says "Client doesn't seem to support that."

Can you help in that too?

I told im using Jabber Protocol to communicate with People using Gtalk/Hangouts.

Is it possible if People send me Pictures via Hangouts i could see the Picture in ChatWindow and not only the Link to google+?

I dont want to log in to gmail via browser everytime they send me pictures to see those.

If you use TabSRMM you can try to install IEView (https://miranda-ng.org/p/IEView) plugin and select IEView as chat log plugin in TabSRMM settings (Message sessions -> Message log).

hello... i have a Q about server side history and carbon copies (xep 136 and 280). In the options there is a support for that. But how to use it? I have it checked, but miranda doesnt still see the messages that are on server. I want to have the full history, because, I use xabber on the phone and miranda-ng on my PC.
What do I need for it to work, so I can use it in miranda? Which plugins or so?

Make sure that the server supports them. For example, install Conversations (https://f-droid.org/repo/eu.siacs.conversations_280.apk) on phone and see Server Info option in account settings.
Modern Jabber servers use Message Archive Management (XEP-313) instead of old XEP-136. Miranda does not yet support MAM.

thanks for the reply... i just found out that it supports 280 and 313, propably not the 136. So I guess I have to wait for someone to make it 313 compatible. :-/
And when it happens, is the protocol plugin support enough for it to work or SRMM has to support it aswell? (And similary if i want to see the server msgs history, i would need the history++ plugin to support it too?)

History plugin (History++, BasicHistory, etc.) just show history from database. Protocol plugin should obtain history from server and put into database. So only Jabber plugin should support server history.

since google turned off the ability to switch on "allow less secure apps" option on 30.05. miranda ng is not able anymore to connect via xmpp (hangouts/gtalk).
what do u think - is there any solution or workaround possible?

Gtalk is closed in favor of Google Chat (https://support.google.com/talk). It has nothing to do with less secure applications.

Plugins like GmailNotifier (https://wiki.miranda-ng.org/index.php?title=Plugin:GmailNotifier) can still connect using the app password.

Google Chat is a completely different protocol that Miranda doesn't (and won't) support.

i was also able to chat in GoogleChat until 2 weeks ago.
This worked via Miranda NG and the Jabber xmpp plugin.
And that only worked if you had activated "allow less secure apps" in your google account.

The connect to talk.google.com:443 still works in Miranda NG but is disconnected directly.

there is the hidden protocol setting, ConnectionKeepAliveInterval DWORD 60000, you can manually add it using dbeditor++ to the protocol module (JABBER_1 by default)
the interval is specified in milliseconds.
